World Cup 2022 Odds
The group stage draws have been largely favorable for Brazil, Germany, Spain, South Korea, and Russia, but who will be the favorites? This article examines the odds for each of the top four contenders and the potential for upsets. You may also be interested in the UEFA teams, such as France and Germany. Read on for more details. Regardless of who you root for, it's good to know the odds for each team so you can make informed wagers.
Brazil
There are many reasons to think Brazil is favored to win the WorldCup22. The team is an experienced powerhouse, having made the final of the last two major tournaments and reaching the semi-finals of both the 2014 and 2018 competitions. Brazil's star players include Neymar, Vinicius Junior, Fabinho, and two of the best keepers in the Premier League. However, the Brazilians have a tendency to be disappointing once they reach the knockout stage. In 2014 and 2018, they lost to Belgium in the quarterfinals and to Netherlands in the semifinals. That's why they have been heavily favored to make it to the final this time around.
Germany
Despite being one of Europe's bigger names, Germany has never really been favored to win any major tournament. Their odds to win the World Cup are often better than other countries', though it's unlikely they will mind being slight underdogs. Germany was eliminated in the group stage in the last World Cup in Russia, finishing bottom of the group. They also struggled in Euro 2020, being eliminated in the Round of 16.
Spain
With a team made up of a combination of former champions and new talents, Spain is one of the favorites to win the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. They won the 2010 World Cup and two successive European Championships. But they've struggled to reach the final in the last two World Cups, and are now looking for their first title since 2006. They'll need to get over their recent disappointing run at the World Cup and do so with a victory in Qatar.
South Korea
South Korea is a favorite to win the World Cup 2022, and for good reason. They have qualified for every tournament since 2002 and will be playing in Qatar for the 10th consecutive time. South Korea has had a tough time in recent World Cup tournaments, failing to progress beyond the group stages in both 2014 and 2018. Since then, however, the Koreans have managed to make the semi-finals in the World Cup in two different tournaments, 2002 and 2010.
Scotland
It's no secret that Scotland has been a favorite to win the World Cup in recent years, but why are they favored to win this time? The Scots haven't made the semi-finals since 1998, the last time they competed at the World Cup. But their past performances in the tournament have generally been disappointing. Since then, Scotland has never advanced past the group stage. This year, Scotland is fresh off their Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid and are expected to start the tournament with Andy Robertson at center. Unfortunately, Scotland will be without Kieran Tierney and Ryan Jack, who are both injured.
Iran
Iran has never advanced past the group stage in World Cup finals, but they have made it to the knockout rounds twice. They also have two wins in these finals. It is no wonder that Iran is considered one of the favorites to win the World Cup 2022. This team is rock-solid at the back, and their goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand is capable of Spiderman saves.
South Africa
Many have argued that the 2022 tournament will be the most important World Cup for Africa. The current crop of talented young players could be a huge boost for the hosts. Senegal is the most well-equipped African team since 2014. With Sadio Mane and other key European players, the Senegalese side has a chance to progress to the knockout rounds. However, they will likely need a little assistance in the draw.
England
Despite a tough group, England are considered one of the favourites to win the World Cup in 2022. Gareth Southgate's side has quality players and is making the final count. Even so, they still have a long way to go before they lift the World Cup. England are currently available at 6/1 odds to win the World Cup in 2022. This is a great opportunity for the Three Lions to end their 56-year wait for a major trophy.
